How to Overcome Personal Challenges: The Monstrous Way
Each one of us faces different personal challenges in life. Every one of us experience hardships in life. But then I noticed, if everyone has their own problems in their own lives why is there no day that passed that I never saw someone smiling or laughing? Can we call those people weirdos, freaks, abnormal or crazy? Because despite of all those obstacles they are facing, why or how can they afford to smile?
Even in stories, movies or dramas, we can observe conflicts and problems that the characters experience. But can you remember or cite a movie whereas no one out of all of its characters smiled?
For example, Michael “Mike” Wazowski in the movie Monsters University, whom I can relate almost all of the personal challenges I face in my life. I don’t know if it feels right to see yourself in a monster but that’s what I see. I see myself in Mike. Like him, I am small, unattractive, and I don’t look brave and strong enough. That’s why people tend to look down on me but the thing they don’t know is that I am also hardworking and that I have a certain ability in me that can help me achieve all my dreams and ambitions to prove them wrong. The personal challenges that both me and Mike have are: adapting to a new environment, establishing new friendships or dealing with new people and managing academic life. Mike entered the Monsters University while I entered the same school I’m entering, the Quezon National High School, but the similarity was I’m now in Grade 10. And I must say being a G10 of Junior High School is hard. As a Grade 10 student, we need to be the model for all the thousands of students in the school. We have to be serious in doing all the requirements and activities that we will do in order to achieve high grades. We need to cope up with the new, full schedule that we have. To be able to overcome these, I study harder, I manage my time and I discipline myself because for me, that’s the right thing to do. Another thing is they changed the sectioning of the STE Program, where I belong. It gave me the challenge of how to be able to adapt to this changes. And now, I met new classmates with of course, different personalities. But I’m happy that I’m being able to cope up with them though it’s a little hard in the first up to the second week. I wish that I will be able to understand and know them all until the end because establishing good relationship with them is what I need to overcome this challenge.
That’s the main challenges in my life for now. I also experience simple problems in my life. For example, right exactly at this moment I’m writing this essay while my tooth is aching so badly, but I can’t just sleep and rest thinking that I have many things to do. So I’m facing this challenge by getting a bottle with ice in it and wrapping it with clean towel and place it outside the portion of my mouth where my tooth aches.
I always face different challenges in my life everyday. Sometimes it can be hard and sometimes it can be just simple problems, but no matter how hard these challenges are I can always form a smile and laugh. Call me crazy, but there’s no day in my life that passed that I didn’t smile, why? Because I know how to handle these challenges and I know that God is with me, that there are many people who love me who are always there for me, there are people that will lift me up if ever I fell down.
I realized that the things that will define you is not the things or awards you get after you overcome those challenges but it’s the way you handle those challenges. Because, everything you do is a reflection of yourself that’s why challenges are created to let us know who we truly are.
